Marine Products Record Broken In Country

TEHRAN, July 16 (MNA) -- More than 110 thousand tons of marines were produced in the country hitting a new record for Iran for the first time in the last year, said Hasan Salehi, deputy Iran's Fishery Company, here on Friday.

Over 23 thousand tons of trout and over 80 thousand tons of hot water fish such as dace were produced in the country facing a remarkable rise, he told Iran Student News Agency (ISNA).

Commenting on the problems in Fishery, he said that the export of shrimp dropped by 40 percent after the 9/11 attacks against the U.S. in the Iranian calendar year 1381; however, it rose by 20 percent through production of 7500 tons in 1382 and it is hoped to have 10 thousand tons of shrimp in the current year.

In the past Fishery was formed to run by the government; however, a good many activities were assigned to the private sector including marine cultivation, fish and shrimp, construction of ports, evaluation of reserves, carrying out applied-scientific investigations as well as the studies Fishery carried out.

The export of the marines except for caviar is done by the government and the rest is carried out by the private sector, he declared.

Describing the process of exports as positive, he said that over 75 million$ came through exporting products of Fishery including shrimp earning the greatest export, he added.

The best way to develop Fishery is publicizing the consumption of marines in the country a contributing factor in cultivation of the marines and development of Fishery, he added.

In conclusion, he pointed out that the payment of bank facilities as well as investment is of the major factors in developing Fishery, which a ministry or an organization could not afford, lonely; therefore, the entire systems should contribute to enlarge this industry.
